Prayers for travellers

Every now and then we realised during our trip how gifted we are to travel safe and protected. Especially today, when we hear the news about hurricane “Sandy” rushing towards the east coast of America, where we have been travelling just a few weeks ago, we are thankful about having come home safe again. Some of the hosts and friends we have seen are now in danger. Especially the SERVAS hosts in Brooklyn are in the evacuation zone.

So we want to share the different prayers we found on a leaflet at the beginning of our trip in the St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg NS / Canada with you!

Anglican Prayers

Prayer for Flyers

Into the hands of others Almighty God, today I fly, and in doing so I give my care and well-being into the hands of others. May I be generous and courteous as they serve me at check-in, through security screening, while boarding the aircraft, during the flight, on arrival, through passport control, collecting my bag and going through customs. May I both see and offer love in every task, given in service and received with gratitude, through your love shown to me in Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen Anglican Airport Chaplain’s Prayers

O Almighty and merciful God, who has commissioned your angels to guide and protect us, may they be our companions from our setting out until our return. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

Some Blessings

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favour and grant you peace. Amen.

May the Christ who walks on wounded feet, walk with you to the end of your road;
May the Christ who serves with wounded hands, teach you to serve others;
May the Christ who loves with a wounded heart, be your love forever;
When you go out, may you see the face of Jesus in everyone you meet; And may everyone you meet see the face of Jesus in you. Amen.
